Jenkins Receives Linneborn Prize

Posted on: June 30, 2009

Bryan M. Jenkins, professor of biological and agricultural engineering, has received the Johannes Linneborn Prize for outstanding contributions to the development of energy from biomass.

The Linneborn Prize was presented to Jenkins at the 17th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition in Hamburg, Germany.

Jenkins is the director of the UC Davis Energy Institute and the California Biomass Collaborative, which brings together academia, industry, environmental organizations and government to work toward a more sustainable future.Jenkins is also principle investigator for the recently created California Renewable Energy Collaborative, which establishes a collaborative center for biomass, geothermal, wind and solar energy research. He has worked for more than 30 years in biomass research, published more than 130 papers and contributed to textbooks and reports on his area of expertise.

The Johannes Linneborn Prize was established in 1994 and honors the career of Johannes Linneborn (1899 -1991) who was a pioneer in modern biomass utilization. During his professional career spanning nearly 70 years, Linneborn’s interests covered a wide range of activities from agriculture, energy and transport to health and nutrition. He believed that it is necessary to integrate all human activities into the natural cycle of life.

The 17th European Biomass Conference: From Research to Industry and Markets is a key European event for the world’s biomass specialists. The annual conference, held this year in Hamburg, June 29 –July 03, was established to provide new data and information on biomass resources, biomass conversion, market development and bioenergy policies.
